The emergent interest in diseases of muscle has been accompanied by a remarkable profusion of books. Within the past four years, the following volumes have been published: the Association for Research in Nervous and Mental Disease Symposium on Neuromuscular Diseases, the Proceedings of the Second International Myasthenia Gravis Conference, the second edition of Diseases of Muscle by Adams, Denny-Brown, and Pearson, Biochemistry of Hereditary Myopathies by Dreyfus and Schapira, and a comprehensive symposium in the Revue Canadienne de Biologie. Now there appears a series of essays on human and veterinary muscular dystrophies. There is bound to be duplication of effort.
Considered on its own terms, however, this book presents a thorough statement of the present position. The editors have been wise in the selection of authorities authorities and areas to be covered.
