This is a concise, informative volume, divided into three sections: growth, vulnerability, and the establishment of function. It is highly recommended as convenient source book on many aspects of functional neural morphogenesis. Generally good bibliographies follow each chapter, adding to its usefulness. The reviewer has not seen any previous volume which so succinctly brought together the data on neural growth and then related it to the ontogenesis of function.
One might wish that the book were more liberally illustrated.
