It is my great pleasure and the good fortune of many to report that H. Houston Merritt, Director of the Neurologic Institute of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University-Presbyterian Hospital Medical Center, has accepted the appointment of Chief Editor of the ARCHIVES OF NEUROLOGY, offered him by the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association. The appointment becomes effective immediately. Houston is highly qualified to fill this important post in American neurology as the successor to Harold G. Wolff who, early this year, was stricken at a conference in Washington and died a few days later. In the intervening months, Dr. Wolff's secretary, Miss Helen Goodell, has carried on the administrative duties in an admirable manner while the search for a successor was underway. The Editorial Board of the ARCHIVES OF NEUROLOGY was consulted informally on two occasions regarding a successor, and the American Neurological Association was
