Dr Kokmen's letter highlights the passionate intensity that euthanasia engenders. His novel suggestion that patients should petition the courts would bring to bear all the magesty, precedents, and safeguards of the law. On the other hand, unless expedited methods are put into place, the protracted nature of judicial deliberations risks inflicting the very slow death that the patients seek to avoid.

Patients who gain timely sanctions from the courts for their decision to attain ultimate relief may be able to access from the judiciary more gentle methods of departure than those advocated by Dr Kokmen. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
