This remarkable book summarizes a tremendous amount of clinical data generated by the Göttingen Multiple Sclerosis (MS)-Counselling Centre in Germany over many years (exact time frame never stated). It also contains an impressive breadth and depth of clinical experience and wisdom and is hardly "superficial" as the authors modestly state in their "Summary and Conclusions" chapter.
The strengths of the book are its organization according to stages of life; the detailed tables of signs and symptoms; and the critical, selective, and comprehensive review of the literature for each discussed topic. The authors have truly achieved their goal of presenting a " 'biography' of multiple sclerosis and its impact from childhood to old age."
A particular strength of the book is the chapter on childhood and juvenile MS, which critically reviews all previous retrospective series and case reports of childhood MS and characterizes the prospective Göttingen cases identified since 1989. Typical of
