This quite brief volume adds to the very large number of books in recent years that attack the subject of headache and its treatment. This volume is somewhat of a "mixed bag." There are good chapters describing several major headache syndromes: migraine, chronic daily headache, and cluster headache. There is, however, little discussion of tension-type headache as an episodic, as opposed to a chronic, phenomenon. There are also good chapters on the impact of migraine (as a public health problem) and the place of headache specialists and headache clinics.

Less complete is the chapter dealing with psychologic and psychiatric aspects of headache. It is surprising that in a volume directed to treating headache, only a page, for example, is directed to the subject of depression and a half page to anxiety.
