Anthony Hopkins has single authored an up-to-date and reasonably comprehensive textbook of neurology, a feat of significant dimensions in this day. Leaving aside the small amount of socioeconomic and somewhat opinionated material, which is British-unique and not terribly useful for the American reader, one finds a treasure of wellorganized chapters written by a knowledgeable teacher of neurology. Uniquely, the major categories of neurologic disorder are Preceded by several basic chapters on what neurology is all about and the final chapters cover recovery and rehabilitation.

A 467-page, double-columned work was needed to accomplish his goals to demystify neurology, place it back into the mainstream of medicine, clarify its demography, provide a useful core of information, give advice in the practical handling of neurologic patients, guide laboratory use, and, finally, categorize and describe the various neurologic entities.
