The authors present a succinct account of the pathophysiology, manifestations, and treatment of neurologic complications of many systemic disorders. The book's eight chapters cover neurologic manifestations of malnutrition and rheumatic, infectious, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, renal, cardiac, and endocrine diseases. Neurologic manifestations of hematologic, oncologic, and bone diseases are not included.
Several aspects of this book are worthy of note. The chapter on neurologic manifestations of renal disease is particularly thorough. The chapters on cardiac and gastrointestinal diseases end by turning the relationship around and presenting the effects of neurologic disorders on their function. Most of the chapters contain helpful tables that list disorders in which neurologic and systemic manifestations of the organ system under discussion occur together.
The book is short and cannot, therefore, get much beyond the basics of each disorder discussed. The chapter on neurologic manifestations of infectious diseases is particularly lacking in detail. For instance, the
