If you are interested in knowing more about radiosurgery, then you can hardly do better than to go to the source. The source in this case is Ladislau Steiner, the friend and longtime associate of the father of radiosurgery, Lars Leksell. Professor Steiner has edited the proceedings of the first Symposium of Radiosurgery given in May 1989 at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He and his associate editors selected a variety of papers by capable and authoritative authors to give an exceedingly clear picture of the state of radiosurgery in recent years. Topics seem to be carefully chosen for both their scientific appeal and for their sometimes controversial nature. For example, in the treatment of atriovenous malformations, an atriovenous est and comprehensive exposition of methods and results is presented in which radiosurgery is compared with microsurgery or other endovascular techniques (embolization and balloon occlusion).
