Lang and Weiner, editors of the superb book Movement Disorders: A Comprehensive Survey (Futura Publishing Co Inc, 1989), have produced another book that deals exclusively with movement disorders induced by pharmacologic agents. Drug-Induced Movement Disorders has 12 chapters written by various contributors and deals mainly with the effect of drugs used in psychiatric illnesses. The initial chapter is a review of movement disorders in general. Much of this material is a summarization of initial chapters from Movement Disorders: A Comprehensive Survey. Chapters 2 through 7deal with the effects of neuroleptics, including chapters on acute dystonia, parkinsonism, akathisia, tardive dyskinesia, tardive dyskinesia variants, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. These chapters address history, differential diagnosis, epidemiologic factors, clinical presentations, what is known about the pathophysiology disorders, and discussion of treatment and management.
