While a house officer in Boston, Mass, I first heard a story, possibly apocryphal, that I always recall when Behçet's disease is mentioned. A disciple of Behçet was visiting Boston and was taken to a hospital directly from Logan Airport. He was still wearing a cape from his travels when a patient with possible Behçet's disease was presented. After the presentation, his only comment was "this is not the master's disease." Thus was the state-of-the-art on this condition until very recently—the matching up of clinical features and then often capitulating to authority. This nice book on Behçet's disease contains a strong message that there are major advances in understanding the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of this entity.
