The idea of a pocket guide to normal neonatal brain findings on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is good. This handbook, however, does not quite fulfill the need of the radiologist or the clinician. The book is not practical. The reader too often must search to discover the milestones and MRI sequences that are being reviewed on any given page; this information is not clearly given with each set of images. The legends often describe findings that may not be readily apparent in the images to all readers; arrows on the images or a paired, labeled sketch would illuminate the legends. The book does not review systematically the important question of normal ventricular and sulcal size; its focus is on the following four other important MRI developmental features: myelination, the corpus callosum, the bone marrow, and brain iron.
