Essentials of Child Neurology is another in the recent spate of minitextbooks on pediatric neurology. As stated by the author in the preface, this book attempts to provide an intermediate-length summary of the discipline.

The book's chapters vary from topic-oriented to symptom- or sign-oriented and provide succinctly written summaries of major problems in clinical pediatric neurology. The book begins with a brief introduction to the neurologic history and the examination of the infant and young child, emphasizing the developmental factors that influence neurologic findings. Chapter 1,s section, "Commonly observed Neurological Manifestations," represents a useful glossary of neurologic terms. Inclusion of concise definitions of neurologic jargon is a laudable feature throughout the text.

Subsequent chapters cover numerous topics in pediatric neurology, including infections of the central nervous system, seizure disorders, neurocutaneous syndromes, neuromuscular conditions, and neurodegenerative disorders, to name but a few.
