This book is a selection of papers and lectures from the Second Congress of the International Medical Society of Motor Disturbances held in Rome, Italy, in June 1988. Edited by a multinational group of experts in motor function, the text has been divided into six parts. Part 1 delves deeply into the expanding field of magnetic stimulation of the cortex and spinal cord. Major emphasis in this section is placed on technical issues of stimulation and motor conduction physiology. Part 2 reviews positron emission tomography and cerebral blood flow studies in several different movement disorders. In part 3, the contributors discuss akinesia and bradykinesia. Dr Fahn's discussion of akinesia is noteworthy for clarity and completeness. Part 4 covers the spectrum of cranial movement disorders with comprehensive discussions of focal dystonias, palatal myoclonus, and cerebellar dysarthria.
