This is a state-of-the art compendium on alcohol and associated seizures. It is multiauthored by the major North American figures in this field and is supplemented by a small representation of authors from Europe.

This book is divided into the following four sections: a short clinical overview; an extensive section on the basic science of the effects of alcohol and its withdrawal on neuronal membranes, neurotransmitters, and experimental models; a section on nosology; and, finally, a section on prevention and therapy of alcohol-related seizures.

This book is clearly aimed at the clinician and the physician who takes care of the alcoholic patient (and that is most of us). Much of the clinical material presented is a reminder and confirmation of what we already know. This is particularly true of the section on prevention and therapy.
