This textbook is a compendium of general neurology written specifically for the medical student and house officer and is a revision of the earlier edition published in 1982.

Chapter 1 details the techniques of the neurologic evaluation, including taking a history and performing a general physical and neurological examination, which is covered in great detail and contains numerous tables, illustrations, and photographs. The remaining 19 chapters systematically cover the spectrum of neurologic illness and include coma, congenital disorders, epilepsy, headache, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, vascular diseases, syncope and sleep disorders, degenerative diseases, tumors, infectious diseases, toxic and metabolic disorders, trauma, the peripheral neuropathies, and muscle diseases. Each chapter is profusely illustrated with figures, tables, and computed tomographic and magnetic resonance scans and has an extensive bibliography.
