In Reply.
—In their letter, Weis and Haug1 analyze the problem of the measurement of the morphological substrate of cerebral asymmetry. In a recent work,2 we describe a method to measure the total surface of any portion of the cerebral cortex. This procedure permits the determination of the absolute values of the surface extent of the superficial, as well as the deep, cortex.
In order to determine the reproducibility of this method, the surface extent of the cerebral cortex of the same anatomic piece was measured nine times and the [unk]±SD were 8.33 ± 0.16 cm2, which gives a coefficient of variation of only 1.92%.
Consequently, we consider that this method fulfils the necessary requirements to be used to determine absolute values of the extent of cortical surface.
