—The effectiveness of the antihelminthic therapy for neurocysticercosis has been questioned by Kramer.¹ The doubts are based on the fact that the studies carried out using antiparasitic drugs to treat neurocysticercosis were unblinded and not placebo controlled,^2-6 and that, in the studies carried out by Kramer et al,^1,7 it is shown that the nonenhancing and nonedematous cystic lesions in patients who were not administered an antiparasitic treatment improved spontaneously in computed tomographic appearance over time.

In 1984, we implemented in our department a protocol for the treatment of neurocysticercosis.⁸ Of the 190 patients who were included in the neurocysticercosis protocol, 23 who met the previously established selection criteria for the shortened trial with albendazole⁶ were chosen.
