—It is our experience that the lack of reliability of all serum tests for cysticercosis are the reasons for our conclusions. Our impression is shared by several neurologists from other institutions. In contrast with the statement that "cysticercosis is a chronic disease with incubation periods up to 30 years...," I would say that active cysticercosis may last for periods up to 30 years; I do not know what the incubation state of cysticercosis is. The concentration of antigen used by us is 12.5 mg/mL, rather than 125 µmL, as we wrote, by mistake, in the text. We find no other way to test for the specificity and sensibility of a serologic test for neurocysticercosis than to use computed tomographic scans on all subjects being tested.¹ If Ramirez and Padilla did not do so with their patients and controls, their results are not reliable. . . .
