This extremely compact volume thoroughly reviews the subject of immunologic processes as they relate to the nervous system. The title is, perhaps, a little misleading. It does not deal with the applications of immunologic or immunocytochemical techniques to neuropathology, but it thoroughly covers what is known about immunologic diseases of the nervous system and immunosuppressive treatment.

Although difficult to read because of its compactness, the first chapter by Dr Barry Arnason is well worth the effort. It contains a wealth of information on the immunologic abnormalities seen in multiple sclerosis (MS). Of particular interest to clinicians are the chapters on immunologic diseases of the peripheral nervous system by Zito, Cook, and Dowling, the chapter on myasthenia by J. Newsome Davis, and the review of immunosuppressive treatment by J. Mertin. The clinically oriented chapters are backed by excellent chapters that review various aspects of basic neuroimmunology.
