Chewing Oscillopsia

To the Editor.

—I would like to report an additional case of chewing oscillopsia.1

Report of a Case.

—A 30-year-old woman manifested a virtually complete right facial palsy. Recovery of adequate closure of the eye took three months; complete recovery took six months; and development of synkinesias occurred up to 14 months after the onset. At approximately ten months, she noted that when she gazed down and read while eating, the page appeared to jump downward. If she held the page up or closed her right eye, this did not occur. On examination, movement of her lips, nose, or forehead elicited cocontracture of the orbicularis oculi. When she gazed downward, this cocontracture caused inward and upward deviation of the globe.
