This book is an introduction to clinical electroencephalography. Its first edition was translated into English (Amsterdam, Elsevier Publishing Co, 1964), and that version found its way into this country.

Kugler's presentation is very condensed; clarity and lucidity are special assets of the book. He is an electroencephalographer of tremendous personal experience, who punctuates a pragmatic approach with academic highlights. Even experienced electroencephalographers will read this book with great pleasure, although they will find basic philosophies that greatly differ from those generally taught in North America. The preface by Fischgold underscores these philosophic differences in a refreshing and revealing manner.

Nearly the entire field of clinical electroencephalography, including psychiatric and psychological aspects, is presented in a well balanced fashion and with remarkably even quality. The book also contains a chapter on activation methods written by Robert S. Schwab, several appendices (eg, training and medicolegal aspects), and a glossary.
