To the Editor.—

I believe that a great deal of caution must be exercised in accepting the findings in the article "Auditory Brainstem Responses in Postconcussion Syndrome" by Noseworthy et al (ARCHIVES (1981;38:275-278) because of the frequency of this condition and the many associated implications.

I am particularly distressed that, among the references, is an article by Crompton¹ (reference 28 in the article by Noseworthy et al) that is specifically referred to by Noseworthy and colleagues. My attention was drawn to that reference because I am well acquainted with the work that was done in the course of writing that article. It should be pointed out that the patients in Crompton's series were certainly not patients with postconcussion syndrome; these patients were much more seriously ill, as attested to by the fact that they all died as a result of their injuries.
