To the Editor.—
Recently we read with great interest the report of Atweh and Jabbour (ARCHIVES 1982;39:57-59), "Intracranial Solitary Extraskeletal Plasmacytoma Resembling Meningioma." As their report indicated, intracranial plasmacytomas show a contrast enhancement pattern on computed tomographic (CT) scan that is similar to that found in meningioma.
Report of a Case.—
We followed the clinical evolution of a 47-year-old man whom we first saw in May 1980, when he had been suffering from left third cranial nerve paresis for two months. A CT scan (Figure) showed a left parasellar lesion with homogenous enhancement after administration of contrast medium. Carotid angiography showed an avascular lesion occupying the left cavernous sinus. A presumptive diagnosis of meningioma or pituitary adenoma was made. On surgical exploration, a biopsy of an extradural mass inside the cavernous sinus was performed, and the pathologic diagnosis was pituitary adenoma.
