This book comprises a series of papers presented at a conference on Parkinson's disease in late 1976. The proceedings constitute a readable and up-to-date discussion on recent developments in the physiology and pharmacology of extrapyramidal disorders and on problems of diagnosis and treatment. We particularly enjoyed Dr Duvoisin's chapter on diagnosis and treatment that is remarkable not only for its clarity but for the emphasis, complete with picture, on the phenomenon of "striatal toe," commonly misinterpreted as a Babinski sign. Unfortunately, the picture (on p 134) is marred by a typographic error in the legend. Other usually neglected aspects of parkinsonism are here discussed, such as the presence of scoliosis and of painful cramps, the complaints of thermal paresthesia and edema, and there is, in addition, a thorough discussion on differential diagnosis.
