Subscribers to the ARCHIVES will receive a special issue this month with the publication of Neurological and Neurosurgical Conditions Associated With Aviation Safety.
The preliminary arrangements for production of this work began two years ago when the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approached the American Medical Association with a proposal to prepare a document to assist them in establishing regulatory standards and examination procedures for medical certification of pilots.
The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) responded at once to the request for collaboration.
Drs Calvin B. Early and Russel H. Patterson, Jr, of the AANS, Drs John R. Calverly and Edward A. Liske, Jr, of the AAN, and Dr Theodore C. Doege and Mr Frank W. Barton of the AMA staff assembled as a steering committee to select topics and chairmen for the eight sections that they designated for the document.
