The International Review of Physiology volumes have an intended audience of established scientists and advanced students. Each volume consists of a number of chapters prepared by different authors. These are not annotated lists of references, but selective, thoughtful, and logical expositions containing opinion and critical comment about significant advances.
Neurophysiology II consists of seven chapters arranged to complement volume 3, which was published one year earlier. Chapters in the present volume examine the organization of cells with dendrites, axonal transport and neural connectivity, long-term modifications of synaptic transmission due to use and disuse, the neurophysiological basis of pain, receptive fields of neurons in the visual pathway, tonotopic organization of central neurons,, and the coordinated activity of nervous and musculoskeletal apparatus in locomotion.
In the first chapter, emphasis is placed on mammalian dendritic geometry, membrane properties, synaptic location, and accumulation and spread of charge both actively and passively. Neuronal mapping
