This book attempts to show how neurochemistry is relevant to the scientific basis of neurology and has restricted itself to six chapters dealing with problems of the mature nervous system: "Biochemistry of Brain Degeneration," authored by Bowen and Davison; "Biochemistry of Retinal Degeneration and Blindness," by Reading and Dewar; "Biochemistry and Basic Mechanisms in Epilepsy," by Bradford and Dodd; "Transmitter Amines in Brain Disease," by Curzon; "Biochemistry of Coma," by Bachelard; and "Brain Specific Antigens: Biochemical Role in Selective Pathogenesis," by Thompson.

The six areas dealt with in this book are covered in depth, with the authors relating disease processes, biochemistry, and application of experimental models whenever possible. An attempt is also made to relate biochemical changes to morphological changes.
