In spite of the appearance of several fine pediatric neurology texts in the past few years, many neurologists have continued to prefer the late Frank Ford's encyclopedic textbook documenting his personal experiences as a child neurologist. Dr. Menkes, assisted by four colleagues, now brings us a wholly different volume, which is shorter, better balanced, and more easily used. It seems destined to become the new standard for comparison.

The organization of this volume is along the conventional etiologic and anatomical lines familiar to most neurologists. The author has elected to assume knowledge of the neurological exam rather than expand the volume. Some of the space saved has been used for excellent descriptions of the neuropathological abnormality that precedes the clinical descriptions of each entity. The style is uniform and easily read.
