Counselor Lane has provided a tidy, accurate, and informative summary of laws relating to medical practice. The book is weighted toward financial planning, an enterprise physicians are often said to shun. It explains the goals and pitfalls of partnership and corporate practice. It describes the tax advantages of retirement programs that allow immediate vesting of financial rights but defer payment of taxes until funds are actually paid out. It introduces the novitiate to some practical rules for investing in stocks, bonds, and the more exotic tax shelters. It touches on some aspects of the administration of Medicare and the ground rules for obtaining benefits thereunder. It outlines the versatility of insurance as an essential protection, as an investment, and as a tool for estate planning.
