A need has long existed for an introductory neuropathology textbook concisely organizing material for the neurological subspecialties student embarking on a study of neuropathology. Drs. Escourolle and Poirier have coauthored a brief, paperbound book written in a clear outline format and well illustrated with high quality black and white photographs and drawings. Dr. Lucien Rubinstein translated the original text into English and, with the authors' concurrence, added appropriate footnotes, especially when the authors' views differ from those generally accepted by English-speaking neuropathologists. A short bibliography lists the standard, more detailed textbooks.

The book is organized according to specific disease categories. The initial chapter deals with brain removal techniques and routinely used special stains. This is followed by an excellent review of neuronal and glial reactions to a variety of injuries and covers clearly this subject so often confusing to the beginner.
