This fine monograph synthesizes the exceptionally comprehensive experience of Dr. Guttmann gained in 30 years treating paraplegics and tetraplegics at Stoke Mandeville, Great Britain. That center was a model of what such a rehabilitation facility should be, and this book, written from a personal standpoint, emphasizes Dr. Guttmann's extensive experience and deep understanding of the problem. The book runs the gamut of basic principles, mechanisms of trauma, complications, neurophysiologic and clinical aspects of spinal cord injuries, legal aspects, and rehabilitation.
