In their preface, Dr. Jabour and his colleagues indicate their intent to produce a compact guidebook to pediatric neurology rather than a comprehensive text. Unfortunately, although its height and width are less than the standard text, its thickness is of the same order, and to regard it as a pocket-size would be to the exclusion of all other objects in the pocket.
The editors have made a major effort to simplify pediatric neurology. Simple, space-consuming charts, providing capsular outlines of various clinical entities are provided throughout. These capsule summaries are altogether too brief, especially as no reference material is provided at any place in this handbook. Photographs are generously used but the quality is extremely variable and, although a few are excellent, others are either unnecessary or of such poor quality that they should not have been included.
