This volume compiles the proceedings of a symposium held in Bar Harbor, Me, June 6 through 17, 1971, that gathered a large number of world experts on the amygdaloid nucleus. The subjects covered at that conference and published in this volume range from the development of the amygdaloid nucleus in the brain through its anatomy and projections and on to its effects on hypothalamic function, neuroendocrinology, and behavior. The book has been published quickly after the conference by an offset method of printing but the illustrations and figures are very clear and in fact include many color photographs that are quite beautiful. A number of papers are important for any student of the limbic system. Tryphena Humphrey's paper, "Development of the Human Amygdaloid
