The parents of a seriously handicapped child frequently require psychotherapeutic assistance although the process is not always explicitly identified nor carried out by a psychological professional. Many parents, however, profit from formal individual or group therapy, such as the author, Dr. Verda Heisler, provides for parents of children with "cerebral palsy," etc. This guide book for parents is a description of the value of such formal psychotherapy and will reassure many parents that their problems are not unique. Unfortunately, since the process of psychotherapy is one of personal self discovery, the reader frequently is left feeling like an outsider looking in, only faintly comprehending the process.
