This book briefly and adequately covers the problem of the neurosurgical approach to acoustic nerve tumors. The authors have extensive experience in this field and certainly are to be commended for the excellent results they have obtained.

The chapters on diagnosis and differential diagnosis are quite good and give a brief, understandable description of the multiple diagnostic tests available. Helpful to the student of neurosurgery is the accurate description of the audiologic tests which avoids the pitfall of becoming lost in complex details.

The chapters on surgical management and postoperative complications contain excellent descriptions of the major approaches and problems. There would be many surgeons, however, who would disagree with the authors' opinion regarding the treatment of increased intracranial pressure by the use of continuous ventricular drainage. The use of the ventriculo-peritoneal and ventriculovascular shunts as an alternative method is not adequately discussed.
