WITH this issue, Hiram Houston Merritt relinquishes his position as Chief Editor, but certainly not his influence on Neurology nor its ARCHIVES. Dr. Merritt has been with the editorial board of the ARCHIVES OF NEUROLOGY since its inception in 1959 when the old Archives of Neurology and Psychiatry divided into individual journals. Since 1962, when Harold G. Wolff, the first Chief Editor, died prematurely, his quiet and effective wisdom has guided our policies and practices as Chief Editor. Few men have served their speciality or medicine as a whole so well and it is a privilege to honor at least briefly his exceptional contributions in this, his journal for the past ten years.

Born, raised, and schooled in North Carolina, Dr. Merritt graduated from Vanderbilt University, took his medical school education at Johns Hopkins, his training in internal medicine in New Haven, Conn, and started in clinical neurology and neuropathology . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
