Serious doubts have been cast on our educational methodology in neurology. Attempts at scientific analysis of the mental processes which accompany diagnosis in expert clinical neurologists have revealed a surprising absence of systematic approach to problem solving, diametrically different from traditional, sequential, logical steps taught to students and residents in neurology. If this lack of order in methodology turns out to be widespread among experts, then a reappraisal of how to teach neurology and a change in style of neurological texts becomes mandatory.
The present book belongs to the more traditional "law and order" variety, proceeding from a system of clinical examinations through neurological syndromes, with special sections on neurological diseases which creditably end with a chapter on diseases on the autonomic nervous system.
