Muscle is an accessible tissue, and during the past decade it has been subject to increasingly refined methods of investigation. This combination of available tissue and new methods of investigation has attracted the attention of increasing numbers of workers, so many that international meetings are now held annually. This volume records the proceedings of a conference held in Milan, Italy, in 1969. The contents include 119 papers of varying length, and covering all aspects of current concern including biochemistry, histochemistry, electrophysiology, electron microscopy, and genetics. The authors include many well-known figures and the program is enhanced by contributions from continental workers whose work may be less familiar to English-speaking readers. Few of the papers would be of interest to the general neurological reader, but the volume is important for investigators and will certainly make its way to numerous laboratories.
