This book of 167 pages by Hooper is a smooth reading, explicit, and accurate treatise, on acute head injury and its management. The author has evolved a method of grouping cases of head injury based upon a knowledge of the area of impact, the direction of the force, and resultant injuries to the scalp, skull, and contents. Possible and usual complications in the various groups are described. However, in actual practice, as the author admits in some cases, almost any combination of lesions may result since there may be more than a single impact during the accident in many deceleration injuries. The concept of establishing the area of impact and the direction of the force if possible, with a veiw to predict the resultant injuries of the head, is valuable in management.
