This new textbook of surgery stresses a physiologic approach, both normal and abnormal, to diseases requiring surgical intervention. A logical basis for the therapeutic maneuvers discussed is thereby produced.
Students of medicine at all levels and all specialties would benefit from reading part 1 (pp 3-359) which deals with the body's response to various injuries. Part 2 (pp 360-1805) will have its greatest appeal to the medical student and resident, but will serve as an up-to-date reference for all.
The authors are all acknowledged experts in their fields, and the editors are to be congratulated for the excellent quality of the entire work.
