Dr. Schwartz has written a monograph summarizing over five years' experience in research on amyloid disease in an aging population, which should be of great interest to the neurologist.
It begins by describing the history and background of research in amyloid disease, then gives a general account of Dr. Schwartz's interests and methods. There follows a detailed review of his work beautifully supplemented by a myriad of excellent photographs. The author then reviews most of the published cases of cardiovascular and nervous system amyloidosis and trys to tie in his results with the known dogmas of the disease. His conclusions are clear and to the point and in his opinion make amyloidosis a very important central nervous system (CNS) disease, something which has been debated since Virchow's time.
