There has been a plethora of recent texts on brain scanning, attesting to the growing interest in the field and its obvious clinical significance. This volume brings together the necessary substratum of basic physiological, biochemical, and biophysical information compiled by competent experts. This is a sound approach to the presentation of the problems of clinical scanning to the interested novice. The clinical chapters are characterized by concise descriptions of diagnostic desiderata and by excellent illustrations. Much of the material has been available over the long term and is obviously designed as background for the interested clinician familiarizing himself with the subject. There is little that is new, and this is particularly noticeable in the discussions of storage retrieval, and processing techniques, now such a critically important area in advancing a burgeoning art.
