This monograph deals with the anatomy and development of the lizard diencephalon and mesencephalon. The longitudinal patterns proposed by Herrick and the neuromeres of Haller, both important landmarks in the ontogenesis of the brain, are recognized. In addition, however, a new layered architecture is described which is helpful in comparative anatomical studies.
The book has beautiful line drawings and photographs. References are few but this, no doubt, is an expression of the small number of workers in this field. The price for this volume seems high, particularly because of the shabby binding and in view of its free distribution to subscribers of Acta Anatomica.
