For pediatricians, seizures are, of course, a familiar problem. Few pediatricians, however, like to manage epileptic children and refer them to neurologists instead. This book attempts to give an outline of the problem of epilepsy in the pediatric age group and strives to educate the practicing pediatrician in the management of convulsive disorders. It contains chapters on the genetic aspects and pathophysiology of epilepsy. Symptomatic epilepsy and convulsions due to metabolic disturbances are also included, and the psychiatric and forensic aspects of epilepsy are adequately reviewed. Most useful, of course, are the chapters on therapy of seizures and side effects of anticonvulsant drugs in children. The book is carefully illustrated and makes reference to a well-selected bibliography.
This small volume is a postgraduate course in pediatric convulsive disorders and succeeds well in this task. To cope with the text, however, it is necessary to be fluent in both German and
