This is an excellent up-to-the-minute book describing the technical details of the relatively new field of microneurosurgery. In addition there are two outstanding chapters on microneurosurgical anatomy, one by Rand and Hoshek, and another by Rhoton, with splendid microphotographs and diagrams that portray the intricate anatomy of the trigeminal, facial, eighth, and some of the other cranial nerves in great detail. These magnification studies are of particular importance because they have contributed enormously to current improvements in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, acoustic neurinomas, and hemifacial spasm by microsurgery.
Dr. Rand, the principle author and a well-known pioneer in microneurosurgery, has written an especially rewarding chapter on acoustic neurinomas.
