In 1965 Henry Hécaen and Renée Angelergues published their book Pathologie du Language. I gave it high praise in the ARCHIVES of NEUROLOGY as illustrating the French genius for lucid exposition, a genius which avoids both the Scylla of German pedantry and the Charybdis of English dilettantism. Dr. Alajouanine's similarly titled work attempts to cover much the same ground. Connoisseurs of aphasia will be chiefly grateful for the present volume on account of its appendix, which contains a reprint of the author's Harvey Lecture on the symptomatology of aphasia in creative artists, and a reprint of his paper on the "autopathography" of aphasics. . . .
