Justification for this book, should this be needed, is given in the blurb. Since Binswanger's monograph in 1913, no comprehensive book on epilepsy has been published in German. Despite the long interval from the pre-electroencephalogram era to the present, this work was well worth waiting for.

The book is based on the author's experience with some 6,500 personal cases of epilepsy and has a refreshing neurological rather than purely electrographic bias. The book is divided into main clinical sections which include epilepsy manifested by age, specific petit mal; petit mal which is not specific for any age group; and epilepsy characterized by grand mal seizures. There are extensive descriptions of the various types of epilepsy and complete lists of synonyms for those who might not agree with the author's terminology.
