A unique and magnificent handbook of neurosurgical technique has been produced by COL Kempe, illustrating a wide range of neurosurgical procedures which represent the author's extensive experience in the field. The short, clearly written text which precedes the illustrated material in each section explains the author's personal preference for the operative approaches to be illustrated and is in no way an attempt to "sell" the techniques as anything other than those which the author has found effective in his hands.

As indicated in the foreward to this volume written by Dr. Henry Schwartz, COL Kempe has made it a practice to sketch the steps and surgical anatomy of his operative procedures for inclusion in the hospital records. These sketches then served as background material for Mr. Hans Brandt of Heidelberg, Germany, whose great talent as a medical illustrator constantly amazes one as these artful drawings leap from page after page . . .
