Diagnostic methods used in neurology have become so complex that a working knowledge of them requires intensive study and the use of appropriate specialized texts. The authors of this book have commendably attempted to gather information which should enable the reader to obtain a useful acquaintance with these investigations without having to reach for special books on each subject. This book will not give enough information for the specialist in each field, but is more than sufficient for the neurologist.

The various sections are uneven in detail but all are up to date and excellently illustrated. Particularly rewarding reading is found in the chapters on cerebro-spinal fluid and myography. The latter includes a detailed guide to mechano-myography for the study of tone, an investigation rarely used here but which offers a number of useful possibilities and can be mastered by those not fully trained in electronics.
